Episode 053 – Bye Brown

Brown Distributing was, at one time, a force in the Florida beer market. It covered the entire state for with a huge craft portfolio while also being an ABI house in the majority of Palm Beach County. It was named Craft Distributor of the Year in 2012 by the Brewers Association and the National Beer Wholesalers Association. In the years since Brown has slashed its size with huge sell offs of territories to a number of other localized distributors. South Florida was long thought as Brown’s strong hold but last week came news that Brown was selling off a number of brands to rival Gold Coast Beverages and leaving uncertainty for others in the Palm Beach County Market.

The guys discuss this transaction as they have all been suppliers in the Brown portfolio at one time or another and dealt with these scenarios before. They talk about these sales, franchise laws, brewery rights and distribution frustrations in general in a state firmly behind the second tier.
